on people who snap being used for political purposes

Y'all might have noticed James Jay Lee's Last Stand yesterday. He was a big fan of The Inconvenient Truth and Ishmael before he was a big fan of taking hostages and demanding Discovery start promoting sterilization.

Some people have started pointing fingers at Al Gore. This is dumb. [To be clear: I do not like Al Gore. If I had to pick the face of a movement, he would be well below Brian Bosworth on my list.]

But still:

[On the US school shootings] Everybody is wanting to know what music were the kids listening to, or what movies were they watching. Who gives a fuck what they was watching! Whatever happened to crazy? What, you can't be crazy no more? Should we eliminate crazy from the dictionary?

That classic bit from Chris Rock's 'Bigger and Blacker' encapsulates how I feel about most 'community shootings'. I put Lee in the same bucket [or one close to it] as Cho (the VT shooter) and Harris and Klebold. Those stories were hijacked to be about gun control, though, which was slightly more legitimate.

I don't agree with blaming massive unwieldy ideologies on anyone who 'snaps' and takes hostages/attempts mass murder, but even less so with people who do crazy stuff in communities they've been in - or in this case, harassing - for years.

It's too simple and too cheap. I'd be more willing to buy a correlation between Gore and Lee if Lee had done a blog post on The Inconvenient Truth and then hauled himself somewhere new and brought out the gat. This guy was a known, crazy-ass quantity in Silver Spring for years. Blaming Gore is like blaming Marilyn Manson for Klebold and Harris.

Dude also wrote about 'anchor baby filth' as part of his manifesto. I don't see anyone claiming anti-immigration groups responsible.
